Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost’s daughter, Santa Claus’s niece, heir to the Winter Throne and now…private investigator. Sort of.

Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her undercover to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at the Santa’s Workshop toy store are going missing.

Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that’s strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.

Will her magic save her? Or will she come up cold?

I should mention that I'm rather a Nocturn Falls junky, but when you combine a winter elf in my favorite setting, solving cold cases it's like Christmas in October. Kristen creates such fun characters and stories, I always look forward to my next read.

Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case by Kristen Frost A light, fun mystery. Humorous with several laugh out loud moments. Mostly at Jayne's thoughts or actions. I've posted a couple below I found entertaining. I can see this being the first in a series with Jayne and her "snooping" plus her interest in both Greyson and Cooper. I would definitely love to read more. Jayne Frost, aka Lilibeth Holiday is on an undercover assignment to find some missing elves. She enlists the help of dreamy vampire Greyson Garrett and sexy fireman ex-boyfriend Cooper Sullivan. Between sweets for fueling, she searches out clues to find out what's happening in the wacky town of Nocturne Falls. Excerpt: "I was starting to feel elf again." Excerpt: “There was no way I could do what I needed to and hold the phone, but light was kind of an imperative if the lock picking was going to happen. With no other options, I yanked my hoodie off and stuck the phone lengthwise into the front of my bra, right across my cleavage. Made for a better phone holder than anticipated. Nicely done, boobs.” Excerpts From: Painter, Kristen. “Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case.”

I love, love, love Kristen Painter and totally smitten with her brand new Nocturne Falls spinoff series, Jayne Frost! I fell head over heels for Painter's work last year after reading The Vampire's Mail Order Bride, the first book of her Nocturne Falls Series and have been a diehard fan ever since. When I heard that Painter was introducing a new spinoff series, I could hardly wait but fortunately for us, the wait is finally over with the release of Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case. The story is cute, exciting, original, imaginative and totally unique paranormal romance filled to the brim with mystery, suspense and lighthearted humor. The narrative is exceptionally well crafted and beautiful written in the first person from the perspective of the the heroine, Jayne Frost, the Winter Princess and daughter of the Winter King, Jack Frost. The dialogue is smart, witty and flows effortlessly. Painter is a gifted storyteller and extremely skilled at building wonderful worlds for her readers but my favorite component of her stories is the magnificent cast of captivating and engaging characters she creates who come to life for us in the pages of her books. They will capture your imagination and steal your heart. What did I love about this book? Everything! What didn't I like about this book? Duh...not a darn thing! Would I recommend this book? You bet and I am, for all ages and anyone who loves a sweet little cozy mystery with just a smidge of light romance! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! Premise: For all you folks who haven't heard of Nocturne Falls, it's a fictional town in Georgia which celebrates Halloween 365 days a year and they celebrate it big time since it's the town's main source of income. Yup, tourists flock to Nocturne Falls where the streets are populated every single day with all manner of supernatural creatures dressed as gargoyles, vampires, witches, elves, werewolves, valkyries and anything else your mind can imagine. Except they aren't just dressed as these creatures.....they actually are these creatures and they're hiding in plain sight of the entire world. Oh my! And they not only live in Nocturne Falls but make their living by owning businesses which cater to the human tourists. But how could you not love it with haunts (sorry, I just couldn't resist that little pun) like The Scream Shop, Hallowed Bean, Howlers Bar & Grill, The Poison Apple, Illusions, Insomnia, Ever After, Mummy's Diner, The Gingerbread Inn, Delaney's Delectables, The Black Rose D & B (*snicker* a Dead and Breakfast rather than a Bed and Breakfast *giggle*) and Santa's Workshop. Santa's Workshop??? How did that one get into the Halloween themed Nocturne Falls? Well, every town needs a toy store, right? And this store is only one of many located around the world owned by none other than the fat man in the red suit. That's right, Kris Kringle from the North Pole and is overseen by Santa's right hand man, the Winter King himself, Jack Frost who just happens to also be his brother-in-law. Yup, family business and all that. Jayne Frost is not very happy with the path her life has taken. It's hard enough being an almost thirty year old single elf at the North Pole but add being the Winter Princess, the only daughter and heir of Jack Frost, the Winter King and that equals no friends and no social life. Well, except for her best friend, Lark, who deserted her almost ten years ago to travel to Europe to 'find herself' - whatever that means - if she hasn't found herself by now, apparently she never will. Jayne's college education in communications is doing her no good at all with her working in the family business at the North Pole, her current assignment being: overseeing 'The Naughty and Nice' list. Yeah, so exciting, right? Not! Nope, Jayne is not a happy elf at all. It's not easy being royalty. But never fear, Jayne's loving father, The Winter King has a special assignment for her that just may turn out to be snow cool (sorry, another bad pun). In less than three years, six elves have quit their jobs at Santa's Workshop in Nocturne Falls, without any notice and only leaving a vague note behind. They just suddenly stopped showing up for their shifts. And even worse - they've disappeared! They no longer even show up on the North Pole's Elf Census. What? What happened to the missing elf employees? Well, that's Jayne's new job - to solve the mystery of the missing employees. The game's afoot! But everyone knows Jayne is the Winter Princess and she'll never be able to solve the case as herself, so she must go to Nocturne Falls incognito and magically disguised as Lilibeth Holiday, new elf employee at Santa's Workshop. Unfortunately, Jayne's plan runs into a few snags with the first complication being her handsome college ex-boyfriend, Cooper Sullivan, summer elf and now fire fighter for Nocturne Falls. Yup, the guy that broke her heart. Oh no! Oh yes, but it gets better! The second wrinkle is Greyson Garrett, a drop dead gorgeous, charismatic vampire who is more than just a little interested in winter elf, Lilibeth Holiday. And Jayne is more than a little interested in him as well! Oh my! But will Greyson be interested in the Winter Princess Jayne Frost? Well, Jayne may have to solve the case in order to find out. Or will she be more interested in rekindling a relationship with her old flame the summer elf? Or..... will Jayne suffer the same fate as the other six elves who have disappeared? Oh my! We'll see! Get ready for a fun-filled adventure where Christmas collides with Halloween! I love it! Another deliciously cute, delectably sweet and delightfully entertaining five star read from Kristen Painter!
  • Cold Mysteries in Nocturne Falls

    By Liadantaru
I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review. Set in our favorite town of Nocturne Falls, Miss Frost Solves A Cold Case is more mystery than romance, although we do get some juicy PDAs in this book. Jayne Frost, daughter of Winter King Jack Frost and Santa’s sister Klara Kringle, is well a North Pole Misfit. Princess Jayne finds herself generally in one of two categories. Avoided for being Royalty, or given special treatment for being Royalty. All she wants is to be a normal Winter Elf, with friends. When workers start to go missing after leaving the Santa’s Workshop store in the Nocturne Fall’s, Jayne is asked to investigate the disappearances. Kristen does a wonderful job of keeping you guessing just who is to blame for the disappearances, and when you finally figure out the who done it, you can appreciate how well Kristen kept you guessing. Because of all the digging Jayne does we find out more about the world of Nocturne Falls in a fun way. I hope to see more of Jayne’s story in a regular Nocturne Falls book, and would love to see her solve more cases. Violence: Mild (Some fighting, nothing very graphic) Romance: Mild. PDAs, Kissing and Potential Love Triangle situation. 5 Star Rating
  • Christmasy Theme in a Halloween Town

    By Lisa Bateman
I don't know if the person reading this review has read any of the Nocturne Falls series by Kristen Painter? Let me just say that I think I liked this first book in a spin off series even more. You don't have to have read the Nocturne Falls series first but it will add to your enjoyment emensly. You can start with this book. Also, the Nocturne Falls series doesn't even have to be read in order. I love how this series I all Christmasy and The town of Nocturne Falls has Halloween 365 days a year! It weaves them together. What more could you ask for? And a whole lot of love is added in. Everyone in the town is so lovable. I just love the characters. Oh, the best part? All the books are clean. They would be perfect for young teenagers or even younger than teens. If you like cozy mysteries, you will definitely want to read this book. I just can't express how great it is. Words don't do it justice.
